S’mores are a campfire specialty, they’re so comforting and reminiscent of times by the fire. When the big green coffee shop created the s’mores frappuccino, two noble things combined for what might very well be the best drink ever. The memories of our childhood and our love for coffee all merged into one.
S’mores are uncomplicated, which is why we love them: Chocolate over marshmallows over a graham cracker, is there a better flavor combination? I’m sure there isn’t.
Did you know, s’mores go back to the 1920s and were a girl scout treat?
Well, now s’mores are part of the Frappuccino catalog, and today we’re making our own. Let’s break this recipe down.
We’re talking chocolate, marshmallows, and graham crackers, right? Well, let’s see how we’ll incorporate all three elements. The crackers will be our topping. We’ll just crush a few graham crackers and use them as a garnish.
Then there’s the marshmallows. We’re cheating by flavoring sweetened whipped cream with vanilla extract (it really tastes like marshmallows!) Chocolate syrup will play its part too, we’ll add a splash over the whipped cream and then again use it as part of the body of our drink.
Of course, we’re adding an espresso shot, because, at the end of the day, we’re making coffee. I recommend a freshly brewed Arabica dark roast or Robusta blend. Brew it and cool it to room temperature. The dark roast coffee will add some toastiness to the drink; it’s reminiscent of campfire smoke.
The result is a layered drink with cream and chocolate in the bottom, chocolate- and coffee-flavored milk, some more faux-marshmallow whipped cream on top, and the crackers as a last touch.
Pair your drink with a few real s’mores and find the differences! I’m quite confident you’ll love this one, especially if you’re fond of the toasty campfire s’mores.
Let’s get ready to make a fun Starbucks copycat s’mores cappuccino. I’m pretty sure you’ve already got all you need at home!
In a mixing bowl, add whipped cream and vanilla, combine. Reserve.
In a blender, add 1oz chocolate syrup, milk, espresso, a cup of fresh ice, and blend.
Pour a dollop of whipped cream in the bottom of the glass. Drizzle a 1 oz chocolate syrup over it and carefully serve your coffee.
Top with marshmallow whipped cream.
Sprinkle crushed graham crumbs over your drink and sing a campfire song!
