Some people just can’t enjoy a cup of coffee without a splash of creamer. Sometimes I’m one of those people, and I love it!
Coffee creamers cool down the coffee a bit, add creaminess and a lovely sweetness. Then there are the vanilla and almond scents. Creamers turn any cup of regular coffee into something extraordinary.
Here’s the bad news. Store-bough coffee creamers are bad for you. They’re made with artificial flavorings and trans-fats — the type of fat that clogs your arteries. We don’t have a choice, we’ll have to make our own creamer, and you know what? That sounds like fun!
To make a good creamer, you need ingredients that thicken, sweeten and flavor your coffee. We’re using condensed milk, regular milk, powdered sugar, vanilla extract and optionally, a dash of almond extract as well.
There’s one other vital ingredient, though, cornstarch — it’s a natural thickener and will give a creamy consistency to our concoction.
The best part? You only need to blend all the ingredients, and you’ve got yourself a bottle of homemade creamer. What’s not to love?
I understand some of you have special dietary needs, I’ve got some myself, so it’s good to consider substitutes for this recipe. If you can’t handle sugar, you have to substitute the powdered sugar and the condensed milk with zero-carb alternatives. You’ll also have to double the amount of milk, but it’s no biggie.
If you’re dairy intolerant, you need to use almond milk, oat milk, or even soy milk for similar results. If you’re in doubt, talk to your doctor, but we’re using all-natural ingredients, so fear not. Trust me; this creamer is one-hundred times healthier than the one from the store.
Having covered dietary substitutions, let’s have some fun making our creamer something special. Add a teaspoon of instant coffee to add a boost to your already caffeinated cup of coffee.
Use caramel sauce to give your creamer a lovely sweetness or add exciting ingredients such as matcha powdered green tea to make your creamer extra healthy.
It’s hard to get it wrong. Follow your heart and play around with your homemade creamer. You’ll love every version of it!
In a blender, pour in all the ingredients and blend until smooth.
Store in a sealed bottle in the fridge until ready to use.
