Get Coffee Stains Out of Carpets

If you love coffee then you already know that every so often spills happen. But what should you do if that spill happens? Just how do you make sure you’re getting your floors back the way they should be?

Cleaning Immediately After You Spill Coffee

The easiest way to clean up a spill is immediately after it happens. At that point, the coffee is still wet and it’s much easier to soak up but you still need the right tools.

One method is to soak it up with a dry cloth and then blot with a damp cloth. You’ll need to work slowly, soaking up as much as you can and rinsing it out as you go. You can also use liquid dish soap in your water to help blot out the stain.

Club soda is another option for getting coffee out and can be used in the same way you would use the water-soaked cloth. Finally, you can use an enzyme cleaner to get rid of the dairy left over from your coffee.

Cleaning Dried Coffee Stains

If the coffee has already dried you’ll need additional methods to help you get it out. Use baking soda and vinegar, hydrogen peroxide, lemon juice, or commercial carpet cleaners.

Mix a tablespoon of dish soap and water with a tablespoon of vinegar. Blot as much of the stain out as you can and sprinkle baking soda over the top. Let it sit about half an hour then vacuum. You may have to repeat.

If you have white or light carpets you can use hydrogen peroxide to help bleach the coffee stain out. Lemon juice is an option that can be combined with dish soap and water as well and used to blot the stain and then cleaned with fresh water.

Alternative Cleaning Solutions

Lemon juice is a great whitening product that can be used on light-colored carpets to help get out the stains. You’ll need a quarter cup of lemon juice with about two cups of lukewarm water. Spray it over the stain and blot out.

Club soda is another option that works on most surfaces. You want to use a plain club soda and spray it directly over the stain, then blot it back out again.

Vinegar and dish soap is a final option. All you need is equal parts of both with two cups of lukewarm water. Spray it over the stain and let it soak for a short time before blotting it out.

A Few Additional Cleaning Tips and Suggestions

If your stain has been around a while you may need a little more help to get there. You can use a little water and then some salt to draw out the stain. You want to vacuum up the mixture and then use a commercial cleaner.

If you really can’t get it out you can even use beer on the stain and then blot it out with some paper towels or cloths. It’s been known to work for a lot of people.

Summary

If you have a coffee stain in your home you want to make sure you’re getting it out as quickly as possible. That’s how you’re going to get the best results.
