I am a morning person, and coffee is an essential part of my routine, my day just doesn’t start until I have my first cup of coffee.
I am a coffee enthusiast too, and I enjoy different coffee drinks regularly, from occasional espressos to iced coffee on warm days, but what I can’t live without is my daily mug of pot coffee with creamer.
I used to enjoy store-bought creamers until I discovered I could make my own. Now, my morning coffee not only wakes me up, but it excites me; really, it brings a smile to my face.
The name of the game is keeping it varied. I make a coffee creamer every five days or so, and never repeat, there are just too many variations!
Today, I’ll tell you the secrets behind homemade creamers, and why you’ll love them. It all starts with the base.
The base of your creamer is the most important element, and there’s no right or wrong here. Whole milk is the standard, but low-fat milk might suit your needs. Half and half makes a creamier creamer (does that sound right?), but there’s more.
Although I love dairy, I often make coffee creamers with other types of milk, like almond milk or coconut milk, and it’s not only because they’re healthier (because they are) but because they add different notes to my coffee.
Once you’ve selected your base, you need a sweetener (this is one of my secrets). You don’t want to make your coffee creamer sweet per se since you can always sweeten your coffee later, but a sweetener, whether it’s sugar or honey, thickens the creamer’s and enhances its mouthfeel.
Finally, you have the aromatics. Think of mocha, cinnamon, grated nutmeg, and cocoa powder. Here’s where you can get creative.
The best part is you don’t have to cook anything, just mix the ingredients vigorously and refrigerate.
I’m sure you already have lots of ideas, but I want you to give you the recipe for one of my successful creamers, a standard creamer with just a kiss of vanilla. You won’t get tired of this one, and your guests will love it.
Mix all the ingredients thoroughly.
Refrigerate for 30-60 minutes.
Enjoy with the coffee (or tea) of your choice!
