A frap is supposed to be a creamy and rich blended coffee drink, with flavors ranging from mocha, to caramel, to white chocolate, to peppermint. New, seasonal flavors flood the market every year. One of the top flavors to come out of this frappuccino craze is the Salted Caramel Mocha Frappuccino.
That’s right; this blended coffee has both mocha and salted caramel syrup inside for a perfect sweet kick. The best part about this coffee is that the salted caramel sauce is completely homemade and very easy to make. Plus, you can mix it into so many other dishes, aside from coffee.
You can also use homemade chocolate syrup, but there are so many quality chocolate sauces on the market. You can get milk, dark, or white chocolate sauces that are of great quality. The effort should come in the form of homemade salted caramel sauce.
To make the salted caramel sauce, you will need butter, white sugar, and brown sugar. The addition of brown sugar is integral to the color and flavor of this sauce because brown sugar contains molasses, which plays with coffee very nicely. Melt the butter and sugars in a pan to begin the caramel-making process.
Heavy whipping cream is added to the sauce, which is typical of most caramel sauce recipes. In the end, flaky sea salt finalizes the sauce, turning it into salted caramel. This sauce is delicious on so many things, from sundaes to cakes.
The frappuccino itself is made so easily by using your high-powered blender. Simply add cold coffee, ice cubes, vanilla ice cream, chocolate syrup, and homemade salted caramel syrup. Yes, that’s right, there is ice cream in this frap!
Ice cream adds the rich creaminess that real frappuccinos have while keeping the drink nice and frozen. This recipe uses vanilla ice cream, but you could use coffee or chocolate ice cream and have a similar effect. Either way, this frappuccino somewhat resembles a milkshake.
If you do not want to add regular ice to this recipe, you could freeze cold coffee into ice cube trays and use that instead of ice. This gives a much deeper coffee flavor without watering down the drink at all. Coffee ice cubes are also delicious if you allow them to melt in a glass of milk!
Serve this frappuccino as a blended dessert or on a weekend as a special brunch treat. Keep the salted caramel sauce in a mason jar in the fridge for up to 2 weeks. This way, you can make a salted caramel frap whenever you feel like it.

Start by making the salted caramel sauce. Be sure to save the leftovers in the fridge for coffee or ice cream!
Add the butter and sugars into a medium saucepan over medium heat.
Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a boil. Once the sugar is boiling, slowly add in the heavy cream while continuously stirring. Reduce the heat to a simmer and stir occasionally for 3 minutes.
Remove from the heat and stir in the sea salt.
Allow it to cool completely before storing.
When you are ready to make your frappuccino, get your blender ready.
Add the ice cream, cold coffee, ice, chocolate syrup, and salted caramel sauce to the pitcher and blend on high until the mixture is smooth.
Pour into two tall glasses and top with whipped cream and some additional chocolate and salted caramel sauces. Serve with a straw.
